Staying in Kalk Bay
Kalk Bay is a historic fishing village on the False Bay coast of Cape Town's southern peninsula. Its working harbour, with fishing boats painted in bright colours, is the heart of the village, and fresh fish is still sold straight off the boats.
Main Road is lined with antique and vintage shops, art galleries, bookshops, cafés and restaurants, all within walking distance. Kalk Bay is a good base for exploring the rest of the peninsula: Muizenberg's surf beach, St James's tidal pool and beach huts, Fish Hoek, Simon's Town and the penguins at Boulders Beach are all a short drive away along the coast.
Kalk Bay has its own station on the Southern Line train, and the drive to the Cape Town city centre is about 30 km.
